Ed Grey

Strings & Music Theory Instructor

Ed Grey is a composer, music theorist, performer, multi-instrumentalist, sound engineer, and teacher.  His catalog focuses on the avantgarde but also includes genrework.  As of 2023, he has 14 official albums released through his distribution company ELG Publishing and another dozen completed and in the mastering process. Besides his personal work, he has collaborated with other SF Bay Area artists Ross Hoyt and Ryan Honiker both through the audiovisual art collective Supervoid and on individual projects, performed with atmospheric artist Leila Abdul-Rauf, jazz artist Rent Romus, percussionist Zachary Morris, performed with Vinny Giola's orchestra, and guest-performed with Feral Luggage.

Ed's working experience as an artist spans classic and contemporary orchestral music, jazz standards and free jazz, ambient, techno, musique concret (his personal favorite), chiptune, lofi, and metal.   His education was classical composition (B.M. with emphasis in composition in 2012) but prefers improvisational performance to a recital of written-out material.

He teaches violin, viola, cello, bass viol (aka standup bass), piano, guitar, bass guitar, and ukulele, as well as composition and music theory.  His main instrument is the bass viol.
