Nicholas Ross

Percussion Instructor

Nicholas Ross is a passionate percussionist and educator currently studying Jazz Studies with a focus on drumset at San Jose State University. With years of experience on various percussion instruments, including drumset, snare drum, bass drum, bongos, and auxiliary percussion, Mr. Ross brings a versatile skill set to his teaching. He has performed in diverse genres such as jazz, funk, rock, and Latin music, sharing his sound across the Bay Area.

 

Nicholas' achievements include receiving the Outstanding Musicianship Award at the San Mateo Jazz Festival and the Louis Armstrong Jazz Award at Junipero Serra High School. As an educator, he has worked with students of all ages, teaching at Murphy Music Camps and helping students in grades 5 through 10 build their percussion skills. He also contributed to the Big Lift Inspiring Summers program at the San Mateo Public Library, assisting young learners with reading comprehension.

 

As a drumset instructor, Mr. Ross is dedicated to making lessons both fun and educational. He tailors his approach to each student’s needs, focusing on building strong foundational skills while ensuring an engaging learning experience. Nicholas also emphasizes reading drum notation, empowering students to explore music independently and continue their musical journey beyond the classroom.


Whether working with beginners or advanced students, he is committed to helping every student grow as a musician while enjoying the process. His passion for percussion and teaching shines through in every lesson.
