Charlie Tran

Percussion & Guitar Instructor

Charlie Tran is a percussionist, music educator, performer, and private instructor based in San Jose, California. He earned his degree in Music Education from San Jose State University, where he studied under renowned percussionist Galen Lemmon, and is currently pursuing his master’s degree. Charlie is currently the High School Band Director at Silver Creek High School and previously taught at San Jose High School for multiple years.


With extensive experience in both concert and marching ensembles, Charlie has led school music programs, arranged diverse repertoires, and inspired students through his passion for teaching and performance. His teaching background includes classroom music, private lessons, percussion ensemble coaching, and marching band instruction throughout the South Bay.


Charlie teaches drum set, concert percussion, and marching percussion to kids, teens, and adults, with a focus on strong fundamentals, supportive instruction, musicianship, confidence, and real-world performance experience. As a performer, his background includes San José State University Marching Band, where he served as Drum Captain for two years, along with Tri-City Percussion, Ohlone Community Band, Music in Resonance, Children’s Musical Theater of San Jose, Silicon Valley Gay Men’s Chorus, San José State University Choirs, and local bands including Infadel, Edgerunner925, and State of Crisis.
