Rachel Nelson

Voice Instructor

Rachel Nelson is a passionate performer who has been singing her whole life. At the age of 16, she made her Carnegie Hall debut as a featured soloist. By 18 years old, she was awarded the National Choral Award. In 2023, she received an honorable mention during the Bay Area Competition for NATS (National Association of Teachers of Singing) and in 2022, she was awarded the Charlene Archibeque Endowment.

Recently, she made her European debut as a featured soloist in Spain and Portugal. She worked with Grammy award winning composer Austin Wintory and performed his piece “I Was Born For This” with the San Jose State University (SJSU) Wind Ensemble. With the SJSU Choraliers, she was a featured soloist at CASMEC (California All State Music Education Conference) and in “Considering Matthew Shepard.” She also made her opera debut as Leontine in “L’amant Anonyme” at SJSU. At Moorpark College, she sang the soprano solo for Beethoven’s 9th Symphony.

She earned her associate’s degree in Music from Moorpark College in 2022. She is a current student at San Jose State University earning dual bachelor's degrees in Choral Music Education and Vocal Performance. She has worked with many voice mentors and directors over the years. During her time at Moorpark College, she worked closely with Dr. Brandon Elliott and her voice teacher Marilyn Anderson. While at San Jose State University, she has worked alongside Dr. Jeffrey Benson, Dr. Corie Brown, Sandra Bengochea, Christopher Bengochea, and Tara Branham. Her performance and teaching experience continues to grow as she studies!
